Universal Love: The Spirits Who Never Left
Welcome back to Edition 5 of the Living Canvas.
I want to share with you a painting that has lived more lives than most people I know.
She started as a pair of paper angel wings glued to a canvas and ended up on the cover of a magazine, in the home of a healing centre, and as a seven-foot triptych. Along the way, another painting connected to her story of universal love and found its way to a stranger’s phone at three in the morning. What happened next still amazes me.
Her name is Universal Love, and she is the next Practitioner to step forward.
How She Came Through
It was 2016 and I was laying down the first coat of paint the way I always do: with my hands. I’ve done this since the beginning. It takes me back to finger painting when I was young, and I feel I add a certain healing energy to the canvas this way.
That day, I had a strong urge to paint angel wings. I wanted them to be uniform and the Virgo in me needed it to be as close to perfect as possible, so I cut them out of paper and collaged them directly onto the canvas. In the centre, I created a large swirling portal. If you’ve followed The Practitioners for a while, you’re probably not surprised by this. Portals show up in my work the way 11:11 shows up on a clock. Once you start noticing, you can't stop.
That same night, in the same room where the painting sat on the easel, I was listening to an online discussion about the mysterious (or not so mysterious) disappearance of holistic healers around the world. Doctors, researchers, and practitioners who were trying to share natural healing methods, free energy discoveries, and information that certain interests would prefer stayed buried. One by one, they were being silenced.
I went to sleep that night thinking about those healers.
When I woke up the next morning and looked at the painting, there were faces everywhere.
Spirits had gathered around the portal. Actual faces, woven into the paint, encompassing the entire opening. They hadn’t been there the night before so while my thoughts were swirling in bed the spirits were making an entrance.
We’re Still Here
I originally named the painting We’re Still Here because that’s what I heard them say. The holistic doctors and healers who had been “taken out” could still work from the other side, through other brave people willing to carry the message forward. Their bodies may be gone, but their soul lives on forever. Their knowledge, their truth, their healing, none of it disappeared with them. It just found new channels.
Five years later, I changed the name to Universal Love because at its core, that’s what this painting is about. Universal love and truth.
Her Channelled Message
“Blessings to you, divine being. You have arrived. The gates have opened and we meet again as the wise ones. Time and trial has taken us, yet we do not falter. We stand before you as you rise again and again to answer the call of Universal Love and Universal Truth.
Love has awoken within you. Speak from your soul. Let the world hear your voice. Do not react but instead respond. There is no fight to be fought, as the fight has already been won within.
Be courageous, compassionate, and above all, be in integrity. No power is given to that which is not in resonance. The inner passion of your soul is guiding you to express your truth through divine love.
You are strength. You are commitment. You are brave.
We are here to support you and your family from the other side.”
The Magazine Cover
In the spring of 2017, Universal Love was chosen for the cover of Mosaic Magazine, a mind-body-spirit-health-wisdom publication. Seeing her on that cover felt like a full-circle moment. A painting born from the silencing of healers, now sitting on the front of a magazine dedicated to the very thing those healers were trying to protect: holistic wellness, inner knowing, and the courage to live in alignment with your truth.

The Triptych: When She Grew
In 2024, Universal Love found her permanent home at a healing centre called Water’s Edge Energy Centre in Blind Bay, British Columbia. The owner felt the painting needed to be larger in height so I added two more panels, one above and one below, each 48” x 24”. The original piece was 48” x 36” which made her 7 feet tall.
The seven butterflies arrived in the extension panels, ascending along a beam of light from the bottom extension and continuing upwards. The bodies of each butterfly were matched to the colour of the chakra system in order. The addition of these butterflies weren’t random. The owner had also commissioned me to create a large Business Soul Essence painting for the centre. What came through was a massive butterfly and later named this Practitioner Transformation. When I expanded Universal Love for the same space, the butterfly naturally carried through.
It felt like the two paintings were speaking to each other. Butterflies are transformation. They’re the part of the story where what was dissolved becomes what was always meant to be. (But that’s a story for another edition.)
“This is beyond majestic and angelic!! Spoke to my soul!!” — Michelle L., Owner of Water’s Edge Energy Centre.

3 AM: The Painting That Found a Stranger
Now I want to tell you a story that to this day remains one of the most extraordinary things I’ve ever been part of, and I’ve had many.
It was November 6, 2018 when a man named Tony picked up his phone in the middle of the night. He wasn’t looking for art or healing…or was he subconsciously?
Tony is a Vietnam War veteran who lives in Indiana. He’d been through too many surgeries and cancer had come for what he called “a nasty visit.” At two or three in the morning, on a bad pain day, he picked up his phone, and somehow, one of my paintings was on his screen. Tony had never seen my artwork prior and neither of us knew each other.
I’ll let Tony tell you what happened next.
“This fabulous art of yours captured my soul. Two days ago I was in a moment of pain. Once I saw this, the pain was gone instantly. Now I don’t know why, but with the pain gone and the energies from this, it is an absolutely beautiful thing for me. I’m a 67-year-old Vietnam War veteran who has had too many surgeries in my lifetime, and then cancer has come for a nasty visit. I’ve been wanting peace in my life... and your artistic style has done that.”
I asked Tony to expand on how the experience unfolded.
“I normally don’t go on Facebook, but four days ago I was having a bad pain day. It was about 2 to 3 AM. I had not turned off my cell. Apparently when I picked it up, the art that you created was on my screen. What an experience. I felt this calming wash over me. Only once in my life did I ever have that feeling and it was when I was in Vietnam. That was over 50 years ago. While looking at your artwork, I had this feeling of warmth, like I was drawn into it.”
The animated painting Tony saw that night is called Stargate. Here is the link to the video: https://www.facebook.com/reel/10155548992036432
The original painting is 48" x 60", acrylic on canvas, and is a spiralling portal of deep blues and teals with a nautilus shell surrounded by the Stargate entrance itself. Stargates are believed to be real portals that connect different dimensions, times, and locations within our universe. So perhaps it's not so strange that this painting found its way through the ethers to a stranger's phone at three in the morning. Maybe that's exactly what a Stargate does.
Tony is now 74 years old, cancer free, and still checks in on me. He messaged me last week to say that the activation still helps him with chronic pain issues.
We bonded over the ethers through art.

What Universal Love Taught Me
When I think about this painting and everything that has unfolded around her, I think about how none of it was planned. I didn’t set out to paint a memorial for silenced healers. I didn’t know she’d end up on a magazine cover or grow into a seven-foot triptych in a healing centre in British Columbia. And when the Stargate animation found its way to Tony’s phone at 3 AM and took his pain away, I certainly didn’t orchestrate that but maybe universal love did.
Maybe that’s the whole point. The frequency of love and truth doesn’t need your permission or your planning. It just moves through whatever channel is available, whether that’s a canvas, a screen, or the middle of the night when someone has given up on sleep.
That’s the thing about The Practitioners. They don’t wait for you to understand them. They just work. They find who needs them.
They’re not just art you hang on a wall. They’re art that works on you while you hang out near the wall, phone, magazine, or a Stargate.
Coming Next...
Five Practitioners have stepped forward so far. The next one has been waiting patiently. Very patiently. You’ll understand why when you meet them.
Thank you for reading The Living Canvas. If this edition moved you, share it with someone who needs to hear that the healers never left.
